We are rooted in Bütgenbach. This is where we work and where we live. The nature that brings our guests here is therefore something very close to our hearts. That is why we make our everyday decisions at the Bütgenbacher Hof with a strong focus on sustainability and responsibility.

What do we buy? Where does our energy come from? How do we treat our employees? How do we continue to develop our hotel?

These are the questions that drive us, and we work every day to find better answers to them. In 2024, we were awarded the internationally recognised Green Key eco-label, confirming the path we have chosen. For us, it is motivation to continue our commitment to sustainable tourism.

What we do today for a better tomorrow

GREEN ELECTRICITY & SOLAR ENERGYWe source 100% renewable electricity from a Walloon cooperative and already covered 16% of our energy needs with our own solar power in 2024
LOCAL PRODUCERS & SHORT SUPPLY CHAINSWhenever possible, we source fruit, eggs, meat, bread, honey and many other products from local producers in East Belgium
BIODIVERSITY & ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTIONWe maintain two beehives and plant native wildflowers throughout our garden areas
SUSTAINABLE MOBILITYWe offer e-bike hire and provide charging stations for bicycles and electric cars
REDUCING PLASTIC WASTEAt our breakfast buffet, in the restaurant and in the bistro, we avoid plastic and pre-packaged products.

Energy & resources

By adding green roofs, we are creating more green space around our hotel. At the same time, we use energy and resources responsibly. Our hotel runs on 100% green electricity, and we continuously invest in energy-saving technologies. The new cover for our swimming pool reduces energy consumption overnight. Digital solutions help us save paper, and during renovations we reuse high-quality furniture and materials wherever possible.

Since 2024, we have been awarded the international Green Key environmental certification every year – both a recognition of our efforts and a motivation to keep moving forward.

Sustainable mobility

East Belgium is a wonderful region to explore by bicycle, e-bike or electric car. That is why we aim to make sustainable mobility as easy as possible for our guests. Electric vehicle charging stations are available directly at the hotel. Guests can rent e-bikes directly from our hotel, while those bringing their own bicycles can store them safely and free of charge in our garage, where e-bikes can also be charged.

As a Bed & Bike certified hotel, we are ideally equipped for guests who would like to discover our region on two wheels.

Sustainability in every detail

Sustainability is also reflected in the small choices we make. That is why we reduce the use of disposable products, paper and plastic and opt for long-lasting alternatives. In our restaurant and at breakfast, we use linen napkins instead of paper napkins. Our room key cards are made of wood instead of plastic. Step by step, we conserve resources and reduce waste.

Regional products & mindful enjoyment

You can taste our region from the very start of the day: our yoghurt, eggs, cheese and fruit juices come from local producers. In our kitchen, we also focus on fresh, seasonal ingredients and regional partners.

We make our own jams, granola and salts. Our water is revitalised using the GRANDER process and is available to our hotel guests in their rooms and in the wellness area, among other places.

With coffee from TORREFAKT, beer from Brewtous and handcrafted jewellery from the Ardennes, we bring even more regional products into our hotel.

Bees & biodiversity

With our own bees, we contribute directly to biodiversity around our hotel.

Together with Apiary Eifel Ardennen and “BEE Together”, we support biodiversity. Our own small wildflower meadow provides bees and other insects with additional food and habitat.

We use the honey from our own bees in our kitchen and also offer it to our guests as a little piece of the Bütgenbacher Hof to take home.
