Rolling landscapes, vast forests, open moorlands and quiet roads: the region around Bütgenbach is a paradise for cyclists. Whether on an e-bike, gravel bike or mountain bike, the well-signposted cycling network takes you right across East Belgium. With the “Nodemapp Bike” app, planning your route in advance is quick and easy.
A wide network of varied cycling routes starts directly from the market square in Bütgenbach. From shorter rides around Lake Bütgenbach and medium-length tours through the Warche Valley to more demanding routes into the High Fens, there is plenty to choose from. All routes are clearly signposted and available as GPX tracks.
The Vennbahn is one of the longest rail trails in Europe: 125 km long, fully paved and with an average gradient of just 2 %. It takes cyclists through three countries, from Aachen across East Belgium to Troisvierges in Luxembourg, and can comfortably be completed in six stages. Bütgenbach lies directly along the route. The RAVeL cycle network complements it with further traffic-free routes along former railway lines, including the 49 km connection between Bütgenbach and Spa.
Cycling doesn’t have to be all about sport. The region around Bütgenbach offers numerous tours where it’s not the pace that matters, but the pleasure of the ride. Passing through small villages, along the Warche Valley and reservoirs, with stops at local breweries and inns. The 3-B Gravel Tour, for example, takes you on a 62 km leisure cycling route through the Eifel-Ardennes region, with beautiful landscapes and a new place to stop every 20 km.
Some guests love bringing their own bike on holiday, while others prefer to make use of our bike hire service at the hotel. Our available e-bikes and mountain bikes are best reserved in advance. The Bütgenbacher Hof is a bike-friendly hotel with its own bicycle garage and charging station, which can also be used for your own bikes.
